1925 - It just gets crazier and crazier
I've now done 3 radio show interviews, including The Don & Mike Show last Friday. There'll be a short story in the July 2004 issue of Stuff Magazine. I've been asked to contribute to the official 25th anniversary website for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I've gotten email from Kibo. I've been asked to make a personal appearance at an '80s video arcade in Portland.
The capper: I'll be appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live next Monday night. (ABC after Nightline, check your local listings for exact time.)
current mood: enthralled

EXCELLENT!! You're an icon. Like William Hung, only different.
KIBO!
You know, screw the rest. Kibo is your sure sign of fame :)
Neat. Just...fucking neat. :)
All I can say is, let any of your detractors TOP THAT!
Hi, I just wanted to drop you a note saying I really liked the Tron costume. It looks great, and you can tell how much work was put into it. It's great to see people taking cosplay seriously. :)
Nifters, who'd have though that little costume would cause such a ruckus eh?
Have fun with it, I think I'll add you to my friends list.

Okay, I'll admit it: I followed you here from LJDrama.com, and I gotta unlurk just to put my two cents in. First and foremost: the costume is beyond cool. If I'd been at that con, my response would have probably been a bit of blinking as I tried to recognise the source (I'm a bit young for Tron) and then a 'squee!' of pure delight when it finally hit me. Second but just as important: the grace with which you've taken the sudden burst of celebrity/notority is a thing of pure beauty. You have neither drama-queened nor folded. You rock. Last but not least: the legitimate props you've gotten on both of the above are more than well-deserved. Don't bother to put me through the screening process, unless you want to. I just thought you'd like to know. --Lynette (geeky gamer chick)
Holy Crap, Jay! You're the most famous person I know!!!
Yeah, but I'm still trying to decide if that's a bug or a feature...
> Yeah, but I'm still trying to decide if that's a bug or a feature...
I think I'd classify it as Emergent Behavior.
Heh. Not everyone who reads Fark is a puerile adolescent jackass. I found your story on Fark and I for one think you are just beyond cool.
You go, tron guy. Take comfort in the fact that you're having a hell of a lot more fun living life than the people with nothing better to do than post bullshit about you from their mothers' basements. You're spending a lot more time in their heads than they're spending in yours. And that, my friend, is how it oughta be.
ummmm puerile is superfluous
There are times when redundancy works for either humorous or emphatic effect. Saying things like "Microsoft bloatware', for example, while redundant, is not incorrect.
I admire the work you put into your costume. I'm surprised that the Fark linkage, etc. haven't brought LiveJournal to a standstill. ;)
I think your next project should be a Yakko Warner costume so that you look like your icon. :D Sure, that takes things up several difficulty levels, but how cool would THAT be?
I've thought about a Warner costume. It wouldn't be that had, except for two areas:
1) The head. Getting this right would take serious work, especially if I went all the way and made the mouth work. I don't have a clue as to how to accomplish even the basic part. 2) The feet. In theory, this is just a matter of shoe covers, but getting them right and set up so I don't constantly trip myself is nontrivial. Then there's the matter of the soles, which would be impossible to do completely accurately (they'd have to be fuzzy, and there's no way that would survive a single wearing), and even getting them approximately right (white on the bottom, with two round black pads) takes some serious work.
I'd like to try it, but it'll take some serious learning first.
Ask some fursuiters, they've got alot of experience dealing with these kinda problems in making costumes.
Cool Suit man, brings back memories. Did you try the new tron 2 video game tat came out recently? Worth a try if you're a fan of the original. I found the link on fark.com. Good luck with the 15 minutes hehe.
You sir, are awesome. All this because you posted a few photos on-line. I wish I could gain stardom without trying.
Good luck man, I'll be watching Jimmy's show for you!
Have you ever seen this stuff, its battery powered and gives of a bright glow. I don't know if your costumes glows or not but you could use it for that. I weaved it into a mesh shirt for halloween and it looked really cool. Great costume by the way!! Website for Lightning Wire - http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/Wire.htm
That's the stuff I used. (The darker blue shade.) I got it from a different source, but it's the same product.
Yea after I posted this I saw a link on how you made your costume, great job!
That's pretty damn cool. It's good to see that someone who puts hard work and ingenuity into making cool stuff gets recognized for their efforts. A question: did you attend this year's Penguicon? I was planning on it, but my ride copped out.
Yes, I did; the costume's debut was at the Penguicon Masquerade.
It's a neat con. I'd be going back next year even without the free registration I won.
That's pretty neat. I had thought the costume debutted at last year's penguicon. Hopefully next year I'll have a driver's liscense so I ca take the trip down there.
Ah, that is fantastic. :) I get a kick out of setting out to do something that is only meant to be for a smidge of fun, and it turns into this huge thing.. we are such consumer whores, it's lovely.
I hope all that goes well.. I'll keep an eye out for your appearances.
When are you going to Portland now? I was just at the Minibosses concert last night, and man it's such a great little hole in the wall.
I haven't heard back from them after my initial reply to their inquiry, so nothing is planned at this point.
You are well on your way to becoming a FARK cliche. Congratulations! Have a great time o Kimmel's show.
man thats awesome im gonna so watch
Like a few of the others above, I linked on over here from Fark. That's... impressive. Good work. o.o
Found you from Dave Barry's weblog, in case you were interested in tracking who-all was linking you :) You're famous!
Dude, I was at Penguicon, I'm not a huge fan of cosplay, but I do have to say, for cosplay it was pretty 1337.
The only thing for Jimmy Kimmel...please, WEAR A CUP. Seriously, that was the only thing that I didn't like about the costume. I don't think Jimmy wants to see your boys.
Just trying to help you out.
Once again, props on the costume!
Hey, man! Remember me from KT's journal? Well, guess what? You're famous. And everybody's looking at your journal. Yikes! Luckily, the folks over at Dave Barry's blog aren't jerks. *Waves hello at them!* |
