|1505 - Two sets of travels|
vakkotaur will be taking a trip next week to Rocket City Furmeet. I'll be traveling a bit myself; I won't be driving as far, but I will be traveling farther.
My schedule is:
Thursday afternoon: Drive to Des Moines. Check into a hotel in Clive, on the west side of the city. Meet irpooh and her hubby for dinner. Show them the TRON costume, which I'll have with me because:
Friday: Fly to LA. Appear on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. This is tentative at the moment, but I expect it to firm up in the next couple of days. I'll keep the hotel room in Des Moines so I can leave the other part of my luggage there and not have to haul it to LA, so I can:
Saturday: Return from LA. Change into garb, and go to the Des Moines Renaissance Faire. I won't have much time for that Saturday afternoon, but I do plan to get by there. I'll also spend all day Sunday, and at least part of the day Monday.
Monday: After faire, drive home.
current mood: busy
Any sign of Will Wheaton yet?
Not yet...probably won't see him, if at all, until October.
Scoped out selected restaurant for dinner - all looking good - tasting the same!Wellll... we had to make sure everything would be up to standards for our guest!
OH... Bring your rain gear! I don't trust predictions this far out - so bring thy cloak for the faire! AND bring the shoes you don't care about getting wet or muddy... AS OF 1/2 hour ago flood waters were threatening Fleur Drive and the police have set up a mobile command in the area so they can close the area down quickly... that is the main north/south street that boarders the park and fair site...sometimes this area of the parks drys quickly, sometimes it doesn't. I will keep you posted on things as they happen or more hopefully don't. Might want to bring thy bug repellent too - there's been lots of standing water around here... gee, imagine that!
While you're in Des Moines, check out Click's Cyberbar.
Fleur Drive is underwater (shades of '93 pass thru my mind). The noon news said they expect it to be closed "until the end of the week", what that means is unclear. Shouldn't effect your travel into town or to your hotel at all. But impact on the Faire is undetermined at this time. Knowing how saturated the ground in the area is already as well as how muddy it gets in Waterworks after a flood, I find it hard to believe parking a car, much less getting out later, will be possible especially since more rain is predicted for tonight.
I have located "Clicks" and unless I've remembered your hotel wrong (which I am prone to do lately) it's easy from there and not terribly far. Not big on bars and meds don't allow drinking, but found this listing on the menu funny: Control Alt Delete: This mix of Jager and Red Bull will definitely reset your brain! I have enough computer trouble with out adding Jager to the problems! HOWEVER... Will send you a link to site if you want it.
