|1248 - A real personal appearance|
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, in downtown Austin, Texas, has asked me to come down to appear in person at three screenings of TRON, at midnight on September 9, 10, and 11 (Thursday through Saturday). They're even paying my way. Yes, I've agreed to go. I think it'll be fun.
current mood: pleased
Do you work at home or something? my boss would never let all the time off you take fly.
I'm a computer consultant. I work to my own schedule, for the most part (and when there's work to be done, of course - and there's never enough of that in a consultant's life).
I have considered getting a regular job, and that would indeed get in the way of doing all of this...
that will be a blast! i just saw the drafthouse on tv, and it looks wicked sweet. all the chairs have built-in ordering systems and trivia games, and the atmosphere seems nice. it's on my list of places to hit on my next vacation, so post something nice in your journal if you like it!
I know several folks in Austin, and they tell me it is a really neat place. I'm looking forward to being there.
These magical chairs you speak of do not exist.
In fact, the downtown location has the smallest movie chairs I've ever sat in.
But, these chairs do come with a waiter that will bring you as much alcohol as you'd like to consume.
But you get that by writing stuff down on paper.
Its still a cool place to go.
The Alamo is a great place. A bunch of us from Minneapolis go down there every year for the Butt-Numb-a-Thon 24-hour film festival.
(The timing on this should be evidence of how often I check people's LJs...)
The Alamo also is noted for having "Anime Tuesday" most of the year, where they run a recently-released anime DVD (usually from ADV Films) on one of the big screens. They also try to get one of the dub voice actors there for each one, too...
