0842 - Why did the chicken cross the road?

According to this story in today's Minneapolis Star-Tribune, because it didn't know jaywalking was illegal. A sheriff's deputy ticketed a chicken in Johannesburg, CA, for impeding traffic. Apparently, chickens in the road are a problem in the area.

I'm just wondering how you list the chicken on the ticket...

Johannesburg Chicken ticketed

(Link)
While the media has run a muck with the amusing story of the chicken that got the ticket in Johannesburg, CA, many of the residents are stymied as to how this individual thinks he can turn it into a dirt bike issue. The chicken did not get the ticket. The owner was cited as five of his chickens were parading in front of a Sheriff's patrol. Our town, contrary to what has been reported, is a town of around 300 folks. Most are law abiding people and do no condone fowl or other animals roaming the streets. We do applaud law enforcement for doing their job. The pretrial date was rescheduled for May 27th. The Rand Area encompasses three towns; Johannesburg, Red Mountain and Randsburg. It is a great place to live and visit.

I looked up Johannesburg on a map...it looks like it's about 50 miles due north of LA, on US-395. Little town.

It will be interesting to see how the court case winds up. To me, though, there's a simpler way to convince those folks to keep their chickens out of the road: run over them! If they lose too many that way, they'll fix the problem.
