1100 - Quote of the day

"I'm not one who questions the existence of the president's birth certificate, but when you listen to his policies, don't you at least wonder what planet he's from?" -- Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty

I usually find myself wondering the same thing about Pawlenty.

No, just a Texas conservative sentenced, for my sins, to live in the frozen blue-state north known as Minnesota. What's more, during my time in Texas, I always lived in the greater Houston metropolitan area. I didn't move to a rural location till I came north.

Little old left-of-centre (by American standards) me smiled. :)

But, really, after seeing so much news lately, more and more, about how birthers and other people with whacked out conspiracy theories about the President (he's a Muslim! He wasn't born in the US! His middle name is Muhammed! He refuses to take the Pledge of Allegiance! He hates America!) makes me more and more angry - I really hope that you, who knows that the President is an American citizen, professes to be a Christian and does not have Muhammed as a middle name, and sought the presidency because he loves his country, yet you disagree strongly with his policies, hate the kind of rhetoric coming from an increasingly larger group in your own party too. Frankly, I hope it makes you as sick as I do - I know you don't like his policies, but spreading outright falsehoods like they do? Can you do me a favour and bitchslap the next Republican who believes falsehoods like that? You can say how bad his politics are and that his decisions are ruining the country - that's what political debate is for, and differing opinions are welcome in a democracy. But I really, really want, more and more with each passing day, for these outright lies that refuse to be stopped even when presented with evidence, to die a slow painful death.
