|0605 - As if it needed to be more official...|
The Jimmy Kimmel Live webpage now lists the guests for next week. Guess who I'll be appearing with?
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.
"Tron uber fan Jay Maynard." Well, that's certainly accurate...
current mood: impressed
you should really bring a picture of that cover where you see Jeff Bridges nads in your own self-defense. Show them your accurate!
I've got that issue of Rolling Stone. I intend to do just that.
Coolness. Although given that Kimmel was a driving force behind The Man Show on ComCen, I didn't think he could do a serious talk show. Good luck.
I had that discussion with the producer I've been working with. A few folks warned me about The Man Show, and when I asked her about that, she replied that they knew they wouldn't be able to get away with the same stuff on ABC (which, after all, is owned by Disney). My own watching of the show bears it out: it's more of a traditional late-night talk show, somewhere between Leno and Letterman.
From one obsessive fangeek to the next, great job! In all actuality I am pretty damn jealous of your exposure. Currently I'm trying to knit a 14 footer Doctor Who scarf, but it's just bullocks compared to that kickass Tron costume of yours.
It's also pretty intruiging how those who percieve themselves as 'normal' take to sci-fi geekdom. We're just having fun! Something most people have forgotten how to do a long time ago.
Once More Into the Breach, Dear Friend?
As a fellow enthusiast of geek culture, let me say that you have, indeed, handled yourself with grace and dignity. Your initial determination to have fun with this experience should remain undaunted. Even those who would detract and make fun are doing so, mainly, out of a deep-seated envy of your ability to live life largely and the fullest, enjoying what you love and who you are.
Having said that, be certain that you are all right with yourself before you tape that show. The masses are very ugly on the inside, and one crack or another will come through your defenses and hurt if you are not prepared. Remember the love and support you have of your friends and those who have taken a place behind your banner, and stand strong in the face of whatever adversity you might encounter on this journey.
"Good natured fun" can still hurt when you are the target, if you let it.
Be strong. Be proud. Be classy and dignified, and most importantly, be yourself.
Someone oughtta wear a costume that cool, and you have the stones to do it.
Take that with you on stage, and stay true to yourself and your ideas. We're all right behind you.

Re: Once More Into the Breach, Dear Friend?
I thought long and hard about this one. Between the reputation Kimmel has, and the mass exposure aspect with the greater likelihood of having to deal with assholes of all stripes, I did have cause to worry. I finally decided that Kimmel wasn't going to be any worse than Don & Mike, and I've survived their treatment with no bruising, so I think I'll do okkay this time too.
After the initial slagging, it's been a lot of fun. That's really all I'm after at this point, and so I'm going to roll with it. I don't expect it to go a lot farther than this, but if it does, I'll take that too.
Hehe, I think it's great! My husband and I are geeky but we pale in comparison. Go, Tron guy, go! :D
PS. I friended you, because I always need more nrrds on my friends list. :) So...HI THERE!
hey do me a favor and mention my lj on jimmy kimmel, thanks bro! ;>
That is a truly awesome costume. Dave Barry linked to it on his blog if you didn't know.
Have fun with all the publicity :) Finally geekdom is recognized. wootah!

No, I didn't know. Thanks for pointing that out..if nothing else, I know I've been noticed.
Enjoy every minute man, live it up.
Again, I am honored to have met you through this, we have chatted a few times, and you are a great guy. Show them you have more balls then what that costume shows. :) My TiVo is already programed.
Remember, not everyone is laughing AT you. Just the ones that are pissed that they never got to go on Kimmel. Hahaha
