|0839 - A not-so-good radio interview|
I'm scheduled to do two radio interviews today, one for The Don & Mike Show this afternoon around 3 Eastern, one this morning in about 30 minutes. I just had a third, unscheduled one.
Got a call from a guy with the Kidd Chris Show, on Infinity Broadcasting's KSRX, 102.7 in San Antonio. He wanted to know if I'd be willing to do an interview. I said "sure", as I usually do.
The interview went about the same as usual, until they had a caller who wanted to talk to me. I thought at the time it was a random caller until I read Chris's web page, where I discovered the guy is a regular, if not member of the cast. I should have hung up when he asked some provocative question ending with "why don't you grow up?" Instead, I replied, "I think I'm grown up enough to enjoy myself doing unconventional stuff." He then asked if I made the suit to catch young boys with; Chris asked me if I caught young boys with it, I said, no, and then they went to silence - I thought at the time they were just working through a delay, but decided later they were just making some joke out of my hearing. At any rate, it was over after that. (I didn't hang up; they went on to something else.)
This is the first jock who has had the guts to try to get nasty with me while I'm on the phone. I don't know if I respect him for it, or if it just signifies he's that much more over the edge than the usual radio jock...but, at any rate, I don't think I'll be talking to them again. (Not that I expect them to call me back, anyway.)
current mood: amused
"I'm not Kidd Chris, so no."
That sort of crap is just one more data point in why I avoid listening to commercial radio.
Gah, nothing worse than early morning radio shock jocks. The only satisfying thing is seeing what they actually look like off the air when they're forced to do promotions, almost always sloppy, aging white guys without even an ounce of the cool the pretend to have on the air.
It sounds like you handled them well, considering! They probably got done with you quickly because you weren't fun to play with (see: not bursting into tears or calling them names). Good for you :)
No one takes those type of shows seriously.
All it signals is that this fellow is a huge jerk. He probably doesn't even use a suit to catch small boys :)
I remember Kidd Chris when he was here in Sacramento. He is by far one of the most annoying D.J.'s I have ever heard. He is known for his "callers" giving people crap. Good to see you blew off his comments, most people I've heard him do that too get pretty pissed off. He lasted like 2 months here in Sacramento if that says anything about him.
Yeah, it sucks man. Its always kind of embarassing as a DJ when you hear about another host who's whole show is "Can I make someone look like a prick". To me, its unimaginative. Anyway, thanks again for comming on my show last night: you were rad with a capital RAD.
Thanks...I enjoyed doing it, and unlike Kidd Chris, you were professional about the whole thing.
(1) I have to say I am slightly boggled to see a polite, intelligent DJ. Aren't that many around, once you get outside the Gambling family in New York City. Do you find Interior Dept. people coming after you with tracking collars? How many times have you been caught and released by eager young biology majors?
(2) My alter ego has been to Sanibel Island, and still thinks, all these years later, that it was great. Is the shelling still good there? Is the jujonia (sp?) still rare? Do you still play bingo with M-U-R-E-X? (Something that amused the a-e long ago, and which he still remembers.)
I'd just like to say i think this is awesome how you got all this fame out of this, milk it man, milk it.
Tch. They surely could have come up something better than that. If nothing else, how many young boys are going to be into Tron nowadays?
Anyhow, don't let it get you down.
That's a cool costume man.
Everyone on fark etc - they shouldn't be taken seriously.
may i personally say, you are a nut.
I'm having fun...
