0726 - Lesson from the snipers

We should learn one valuable lesson from the DC snipers. They were able to buy their killing tool easily, with no background check and no red tape, and modify it to their sick, twisted ends. The results are horrific: 10 people dead, 3 more seriously injured. We should ban this killing machine right away to protect our children from the same kind of senseless violence.

Yes, it's time and past time. Ban the 1990 Chevrolet Caprice!

(No, that picture is not the snipers' car.)

Sound silly? You betcher ass. Of course the car isn't responsible for the use to which it was put. Neither is the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle that was used, but I'll be astonished if we don't see a push for another, more inclusive ugly gun ban like the one that was committed in 1994...which will likely ban the AR-15 in any form, but leave untouched the Ruger Mini-14, which is functionally identical, but uses different styling (and different magazines, but still 10 rounds each).

It's their way of telling the nation that they're "doing something."

I don't own a gun, but this seems to be similar to the "video games, trench coats, lonely people, and the internet are evil" bullshit that went round after Littleton. It's just another treat-the-symptoms charade. I knew it'd be a matter of time before the gun maker was drawn into this; frankly, I'm surprised at how -quick- it was this time.

I've always been for banning irresponsible people from owning guns rather than banning guns themselves.
