|1203 - A normal weekend|
This past weekend was the first one in a while that I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. I got home from LA Friday afternoon, with no hassles. Saturday was for recovering. We didn't do much of anything at all.
Sunday was at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. We spent quite a bit of time talking to rillaspins and melissasutton, and the rest of it wandering around and not being even a little famous. For me, the highlight of the day was when Zilch the Torysteller played what he said was the most-requested song at faire: Free Bird. He did a credible job of it, complete with lyrics that had been rewritten to be period-appropriate. (Aside to my non-rennie friends: For some weird reason, it seems to be a standard thing to ask a musician - any musician - "Play Free Bird!". Anyone have any idea why?)
It started raining about 4; when it slacked off about 4:30, we headed home, with a stop for Chinese food. "Did you go to the Renaissance festival?" "No, we always dress like this." One of these days, someone will believe us...
current mood: relaxed
current music: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird
(LOL) Sounds like a popular comedian...
"Did you go to the Renaissance Festival?"
"Why no, I am working on my time machine and wanted to be dressed for the part".... heres your sign
Was great to see you guys yesterday!!
I want to go to a Ren Faire!
Sadly, that's too far away... *sigh*
I'll either have to wait for the one in AL, or hope I hear an answer back from the local SCA sooner rather than later. :-D
It sounds like you had a grand time! Yay you!
Re: No fair *Sniffle*
Yes, I did. I really enjoy going to faires, and one of the side effects of the Kimmel stuff is that I'm not doing it as much as I'd like.
I do have one disadvantage: the closest faires are still a couple hours' drive away, and some are further. We'll be driving four hours or so to get to the one we're going to this weekend, in the Amana Colonies in Iowa.
Re: No fair *Sniffle*
The closest one for me is just south of Nashville, so it's about 1 1/2 hours away. Not that far, but it's already over (it's in May). There's one in Florance, AL that's fun (even if it's only one weekend), that one is about 4 or 5 hours away. It's the last weekend of October, so it can be hard to get to if Halloween is that weekend.
Still, long drives for Faires aren't anything if you have fun people to go with you one the drives! :-D
Ha Ha...here's your sign. How appropriate.
...and yes, it's supposed to rain at a Renfest. I visited the Texas Renaissance Fair's website today and it does appear they are holding it again. Now...when to go...that's another thing. I'll have to make plans. It runs every weekend throught October to the middle of November. I'm sure it will rain whatever weekend I choose.
So far, I haven't had the nerve to wear a costume, but who knows what I'll do this year. I just have a fear of leaving too little to the imagination. *giggle*
