Update on Dad's condition

Buried in my discussion of United's suckage was a mention that my father is in the hospital. He collapsed yesterday, and was diagnosed with blood clots in the lungs. He's currently in a regional hospital in Lafayette, Indiana, where he was transferred. They've got him on big doses of anticoagulants to dissolve the clots, and are monitoring him for other problems.

The outlook for this kind of problem is quite good. Instead of one big clot, this is a buildup of lots of little ones. Those both dissolve faster and cause less trouble should they break free; only in large clumps do they cause problems. Thus, if the patient doesn't die right away, recovery is usually complete. He will probably be on anticoagulants for the rest of his life, though.

I'm not too worried at the moment. Of course, things change unpredictably in this business, so we won't know for sure until it's completely cleared up.

More baggage idiocy

Well, they tried, and screwed it up. They gave the suitcase to the airport's contracted baggage delivery service, which called my cellphone - from a number that turned out to be a prepaid calling service that does not accept incoming calls, so I couldn't call them back. I finally got an agent at United, and they said that they'd FedEx it and it'd get here Tuesday. I told them that was unacceptable and I'd have to come get it. They're sending me two $25 travel vouchers, whee.

I wish they'd told me that at 1 PM, not 4:45, so I could get back from the Cities at a reasonable hour...
