1713 - Barbecue, Texas style

There's been a discussion on one of the mailing lists I'm on over the past few hours about barbecue. Not grilled stuff, not that abomination Minnesotans and Wisconsinites call "barbecue" (the food itself isn't bad, but that's not what's properly called barbecue!), but real, smoked meat cooked for a long time at low temperatures in fragrant wood smoke.

While poking around the net, I ran across this review of one smoker with a very good reputation. In the process, the reviewer explains just what makes real barbecue the ambrosia of the gods. If you want to learn about barbecuing, check out the link.

Dammit. Now I want some good sliced beef, smoked for hours...wonder if that place in Albert Lea is still open...

current mood: [mood icon] hungry

Hmmm. Mayhaps you are looking ing the wrong places?

First, in my neighborhood. http://twincities.citysearch.com/profile/5581820#editorialreview

Second, just a few miles away

Come up and see me sometime. I haven't actually been to Ted Cook's, but I hear alot about it. (I don't eat alot of barbeque.)

Also--Hickory hut on University.

Barbecue isn't even a noun to me and it still jars me when I hear it like that. Took me right out of Kill Bill Volume 2 that did.

Well... it *is* a noun, but it's not referring to food. Just the thing the food is verbed on.

Wow, my animated icon is really annoying when there's two in a row.

That will be rectified very soon when my regular default icon returns and the animated one gets put to its proper use.
