1553 - Travel follies

I got to San Diego, though it didn't look like I would for a while...

The flight I was supposed to take originally, on America West, was delayed, first for a fueling issue, then for a hydraulic leak...we waited for an hour or so for them to replace a seal, only to discover that it was a cracked fitting. Result: one cancelled flight. That was America West's only morning flight to Phoenix (one of their two major hubs), so they were rebooking folks on other airlines. We had to go back out to the ticket counter to get rebooked.

I hate going through security, and was going to have to do it again. Before I left the secured area, I ducked into the Northwest WorldClub (of which I'm a member) to stash my stuff so I wouldn't have to mess with it. While I was there, I mentioned the problem, and the lady at the service counter said, "Where are you going?" and then made a reservation for me on the next Northwest flight to San Diego.

By the time, two hours later, that I got to the ticket counter, they were telling people that they wouldn't be able to get them out of there until the next day. I told the agent that I'd had a reservation made for me on Northwest, and they said that I was lucky. I took the original ticket to the Northwest counter, got checked in, and learned that the flight was overbooked! Fortunately, it was only at the "take volunteers" level.

When I got back to the WorldClub, I told the lady at the counter that they'd earned their membership fee for the year.

The rest of the trip so far has been uneventful. I got about 4 hours of sleep before going off to the customer, accomplished what I needed to there, ate breakfast, got another few hours of sleep, and then got up and going again. Now I just need to figure out what to do with the rest of my day, and tomorrow morning (my flight out doesn't leave till almost 4 PM).
